As the temperature slowly begins to warm, we love to be outside as much as we can. A beloved family activity is to go for a hike or a nature walk. Something about being surrounded by creation, breathing in fresh air, hearing the worship of the birds to their Creator, just makes your heart sing and your mind ease.
I’ve had a desire to find a way to not get lost in capturing the moment only to be distracted by my phone when we are out on these adventures. One way is to bring a nature journal and some pencils. Slowing down, really noticing and taking the time to express your experience in an artistic way may help you to see your surroundings with fresh eyes.
Perhaps you don’t feel comfortable drawing or taking notes. Try getting a used digital or film camera. You can still get those treasured photos without all the other features a phone may have. Our daughter has her own kids digital camera and it’s amazing to see what she finds interesting or noteworthy. Carefully selecting only a few photos to actually print off for a special family nature book could be the start of a beautiful tradition.
